<p>Just seven miles north-east of Nottingham, surrounded by rolling green fields and good schools, Woodborough is a magnet for fresh-air-seeking families.</p>



<p>The village has a lively community, fabulous schools within easy reach and feels safe and family-friendly. Properties are picturesque and full of character, with pretty period cottages and half-timbered buildings. It’s rural but not remote. In the last year it’s been blessed with the addition of some excellent new fine dining and pub options.</p>



<p>For shopping, you’ll need to travel to the neighbouring village of Calverton, or further afield to Mapperley or Arnold for supermarkets and nearby Nottingham city centre for everything else.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-shop">SHOP</h2>



<p>Woodborough is small – precisely why it’s so revered – so aside from <a href="https://britishgardencentres.com/woodborough-green-garden-centre/">Woodborough Green Garden Centre</a> on the edge of the village, there’s not a lot on offer apart from a small Co-Op Food and Sainsbury&#8217;s Local a few minutes away in Calverton for essentials. You’ll need into Arnold, less than 10 minutes away, for a big shop (there’s an Asda and Tesco superstore).</p>



<p>Bibliophiles will be happy to find Muddy Award-winning bookshop <a href="https://www.thebookcase.co.uk/">The Bookcase</a>, a few minutes down the road and if you need to de-stress, <a href="https://www.mytimeout.co.uk/">My Time Out</a> beauty salon offers holistic therapies and beauty treatments, as well as yoga classes.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-eat">EAT</h2>

<p>Eating out in Woodborough is on the up, with two village eateries under new management this year. Wow wedding venue <a href="https://nottsderbyshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/woodborough-hall-woodborough/">Woodborough Hall</a> has had a gorgeous glow-up, with a radical refurb and an elegant restaurant that opens for luxe lunches throughout the week and intimate dinners at the weekends. Meanwhile on Main Street at <a href="https://fourbellsinn.com/">The Four Bells Inn</a>, a new team took over this summer, dishing up tapas and posh pub classics alongside live music and quiz nights.</p>



<p>Just outside the village, you’ll find two great gastropubs, <a href="https://nottsderbyshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/ye-olde-bridge-inn-southwell-notts/">Ye Olde Bridge Inn</a> in Oxton and <a href="https://oldvolpub.co.uk/">The Old Vol</a> in Claythorpe. Both have fabulous, big beer gardens and kids’ play areas so are popular for al fresco dining in the summer.</p>

<p>There are loads of lovely walks from Woodborough if you&#8217;re keen to make the most of rural living, most&nbsp;<a href="https://www.woodborough-heritage.org.uk/trailsintroduction.html">starting in the village</a>. Like a view? You&#8217;ll enjoy wide vistas from the hill tops across the Vale of Trent and <a href="https://gedlingcountrypark.com/">Gedling Country Park</a>, which overlooks Nottingham, is down the road, with nature trails, kids’ adventure playground and zip wire.</p>

<p>The closest theatre and cinema is <a href="https://www.boningtontheatre.co.uk/">Bonington Theatre</a>, while Nottingham city’s vibrant venues and galleries are only a 20min drive away. Southwell’s lovely <a href="https://www.southwellminster.org/whats-on/">Minster</a> hosts regular concerts and art installations and is just seven miles away.</p>

In the other direction, there’s <a href="https://www.stwilfridsprimary.com/">St Wilfrid’s CofE Primary School</a>, <a href="https://www.manorparkcalverton.co.uk/">Manor Park Infant and Nursery School</a> or <a href="https://www.sirjohnsherbrooke.co.uk/">Sir John Sherbrooke Junior School</a> in nearby Calverton, all rated Good at their last inspections. <a href="https://www.salterfordhouseschool.co.uk/">Salterford House</a> prep school is also nearby.</p>



<p>For secondaries, it’s <a href="https://www.cfsacademy.org.uk/">Colonel Frank Seely Academy</a>, rated Good in 2022 or <a href="https://www.theredhillacademy.org.uk/">Redhill Academy</a>, last rated Outstanding but way back in 2013. Further afield in Southwell, there’s <a href="https://www.minsterschool.org.uk/">The Minster School</a> (rated Outstanding in 2011 but due an inspection since converting to Academy status). The excellent <a href="https://nottinghamgirlshigh.gdst.net/">Nottingham Girls’ High School</a> and <a href="https://nottinghamhigh.co.uk/">Nottingham High School</a> are both within reach too.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST-KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>This is William the Conqueror territory. The first record of land holding in Woodborough is in the Domesday Book completed in 1086 – it shows that Woodborough was part of a large estate given to William the Conqueror&#8217;s son William Peveril.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>It&#8217;s an easy 20min drive into Nottingham city centre, Burton Joyce and Lowdham train stations are both a couple of miles away, while the closest airport is East Midlands (17 miles).</p>
