<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-why">WHY?</h2>



<p>Pretty Victorian terrace houses, family-friendly fun, café WFH culture, and a cool vibe from a strong student population. This town has a charming bee theme (based on incorrect assumption about the etymology of the name, but we’ll let them have it). The bee is the town council’s emblem with beehives carved into the town hall. Street furniture dotted around High Road is decorated in black and gold with a bee symbol and there&#8217;s also a sculpture of a man sitting next to a beehive, popularly known as the &#8216;Bee-man&#8217;. We&#8217;re buzzing about the place (sorry, couldn&#8217;t resist).</p>

<p>Locals&#8217; favourites first. <a href="http://vichotelbeeston.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Victoria Hotel</a> is a proper pub with a great atmosphere and a splash of gastro in the menu. Kids are welcome until 9pm. <a href="https://www.caferoya.com/">Café Roya</a> is a bright and beautiful space with insta-fodder vegetarian and vegan plates. For some international cuisine, <a href="https://www.thefrustratedchef.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Frustrated Chef</a> has a great reputation for tapas. And for delicious Italian dishes, you can&#8217;t go wrong with <a href="https://www.loliva.co.uk/">L&#8217;Oliva</a> or <a href="https://www.amoresrestaurantbeeston.co.uk/">Amores</a>. You can pick up a great Sunday roast at <a href="https://www.commercial-inn.co.uk/">The Commercial Inn</a>. </p>



<p>After some fine dining? <a href="https://nottinghamvenues.com/eat-drink/bramleys-brasserie-bar">Bramleys Brasserie</a> is at the Orchard Hotel nestled in the heart of the Uni of Nottingham campus. And for a special occasion, two Michelin star <a href="https://www.restaurantsatbains.com/">Restaurant Sat Bains</a> is just a 10min drive. For day time eats and delicious alternative afternoon teas, book a table at legendary <a href="https://www.thepuddingpantry.co.uk/">Pudding Pantry</a>. </p>

<p>In less than 10 mins on the tram, you&#8217;ll be in Nottingham so you&#8217;re likely to do most of your retail therapy in the city. But just in case you need some shops on your doorstep. The cute handmade baby and children&#8217;s clothing boutique <a href="https://snugglesandkisses.co.uk/">Snuggles and Kisses</a>. <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-health-amp-wellbeing">HEALTH &amp; WELLBEING</h2>



<p>There’s a <a href="https://www.puregym.com/gyms/nottingham-beeston/?utm_source=local&amp;utm_campaign=local_search-nottingham-beeston-&amp;utm_medium=organic">PureGym</a> in The Square shopping centre and <a href="https://www.lleisure.co.uk/sport-and-fitness/chilwell-olympia/">Chillwell Olympia</a> leisure centre has a gym and fitness classes to get you out of breath. <a href="https://blisswellbeing.co.uk/">Bliss</a> is great for every kind of yoga, <a href="https://danabwellbeing.co.uk/">Dana B Wellbeing</a> does classic mat-based Pilates and <a href="https://beestonfitness.co.uk/">Beeston Fitness</a> offers various classes. For fresh air fitness there’s Beeston Fields Recreation Ground and Dovecote Lane. Highfields Park has a lovely lake but for longer walks try Attenborough Nature Reserve.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY</h2>



<p>The community highlight of the year happens every October when <a href="https://www.oxjambeeston.org/event/oxjam-beeston-music-festival-2024/">Oxjam Beeston</a> kicks off and raises money for Oxfam by hosting brilliant music acts across Beston.&nbsp;There’s also an annual summer carnival.</p>

<p>Families will love <a href="https://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/highfieldspark">Highfields Park</a> next to the Uni of Nottingham. It is has a lovely boating lake and a huge play park for little ones. Nature seekers, head to <a href="https://www.nottinghamshirewildlife.org/attenborough">Attenborough Nature Reserve</a>. Opened by <em>the</em> Sir David Attenborough, this much loved, nationally important site is best known for its birds with over 250 species recorded. For a spot of heritage, <a href="https://www.nottinghamcastle.org.uk/">Nottingham Castle</a> has loads of events on throughout the year for families. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE</h2>



<p>Culture vultures, rejoice. Beeston has loads to get stuck into. The town has its <a href="https://beeston.arccinema.co.uk/">own boutique cinema</a> which is part of a small indie chain, and hosts its own <a href="https://www.beestonfilm.com/">Film Festival</a> too with loads of arthouse and international shorts. For art, drama and dance lovers, the <a href="https://www.artculturetourism.co.uk/">ACT</a> group hosts loads of great events that promote diversity and cultural exchange. <a href="https://www.lakesidearts.org.uk/">Lakeside Arts</a> is also a great little theatre in the grounds of the Uni of Nottingham that has loads of family-friendly fun along with fantastic shows.</p>

<p>Some fab, Outstanding options for littlies. In the town, there&#8217;s <a href="https://www.churchhousenurserybeeston.co.uk/">Church House Day Nursery</a> and <a href="https://www.orchardnurserybeeston.com/">The Orchard Day Nursery</a> – though it&#8217;d be fab to see a more recent inspection of the second. Over in Toton, there&#8217;s <a href="https://www.busybeeschildcare.co.uk/nursery/nottingham-toton">Busy Bees Toton</a>, and in nearby Clifton, <a href="https://brwacademy.com/welcome/">Blessed Robert Widmerpool Catholic Primary and Nursery School</a> was visited by Ofsted this year. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-schools">SCHOOLS</h2>



<p>As above, <a href="https://brwacademy.com/welcome/">Blessed Robert Widmerpool Catholic Primary and Nursery School</a> is a brilliant primary option. Over in Toton, <a href="http://chetwyndspencer.com/">Chetwynd Spencer Academy</a> is also outstanding. <a href="https://www.thelanes.notts.sch.uk/">The Lanes Primary School</a>, <a href="http://www.roundhill.notts.sch.uk/">Round Hill Primary School</a>, and <a href="https://www.beestonfields.notts.sch.uk/">Beeston Fields Primary School</a> are all Good, as is <a href="https://johnclifford.school/">John Clifford Primary School</a> (with a recent academy conversion).  </p>



<p>Teens have a few great options. <a href="https://www.wbs.school/">West Bridgford School</a>, <a href="https://becketonline.co.uk/">The Becket School</a> and <a href="http://www.george-spencer.com/">George Spencer Academy</a> are all very well regarded. Heading down the independent schools route, <a href="https://www.trentschools.net/">Trent College</a> is a fab all-through school, or head into the city for <a href="https://nottinghamgirlshigh.gdst.net/">Nottingham Girls’ High School GDST</a> and <a href="https://nottinghamhigh.co.uk/">Nottingham High School</a>. They&#8217;re all 15 mins away by car. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>Beeston has one of the highest concentrations of pubs in the UK, with 23 pubs within the Beeston Crawl. Fashion designer Paul Smith was born here and Nottingham&#8217;s own Vicky McClure lives in neighbouring Toton.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>There is a tram line that’s an extension to the Nottingham Express Transit system, direct to the city centre&nbsp; Great links through the Beeston train station: served by East Midlands Railway and CrossCountry. Direct trains to and from London St Pancras call hourly, with journey times of under 2 hrs.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Other regular direct services serve Nottingham, Derby, Lincoln, Bedford, Burton-on-Trent, Leicester, Loughborough, Tamworth, Newark Castle, Luton, East Midlands Parkway, Birmingham New Street and Matlock.&nbsp;</p>
