<p>This pretty village is smack-bang in the middle of Robin Hood country, with Sherwood Forest on the doorstep and the Southwell Trail a stone&#8217;s throw away. You&#8217;re hardly out in the sticks, though: there are some impressive pubs and cafes here, as well as boutique shops and a wine bar in nearby Southwell (another pick for our Best Places to Live). It&#8217;s also a shoe-in for young families thanks to the well-rated schools and sprinkling of great parks. </p>

<p>We can’t talk about Farnsfield without mentioning <a href="https://www.therusticcrust.co.uk/">The Rustic Crust</a>. Known locally as THE PLACE to go for incredible pizzas, it’s oozing with laidback Italian charm. And the puds? Incredible. You&#8217;ve got more cosy pubs than you can shake a stick at. <a href="https://thelionatfarnsfield.com/">The Lion</a> and <a href="https://www.facebook.com/theploughinnfarnsfield/">The Plough Inn</a> in particular do brilliant Sunday lunches. For midweek dinners and relaxed date nights, jump in the car and nip to the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Thecopperbeachbilsthorpe/?y_source=1_MTAwOTgwNzQ4OC03MTUtbG9jYXRpb24ud2Vic2l0ZQ%3D%3D">Copper Beech</a> in Bilsthorpe, <a href="https://waggonhalam.co.uk/">The Wagon</a> at Hallam and the <a href="https://www.foxblidworth.co.uk/">Fox &amp; Hounds</a> in Blidworth.</p>



<p>The bustling <a href="https://www.woodberryfarnsfield.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Woodberry Teahouse, Café &amp; Shop</a> is well-loved in the village, and dishes up everything from full English breakfasts and afternoon tea to sharing tapas menus – and in summer, you can sip an Aperol spritz on their bijou terrace. &nbsp;And the newest addition is <a href="https://www.lepetitvert.co.uk/">Le Petit Vert</a>, is a lovely all day bistro and café with a French twist.</p>

For teens, your best option is the extremely well-regarded <a href="https://www.minster.notts.sch.uk/">Minster School</a> in Southwell. Heading down the private route? <a href="https://www.salterfordhouseschool.co.uk/">Salterford House</a> is a day prep school. </p>

<p>For a day in the city, Nottingham is only half an hour away by car, and there are regular buses that pass through the village. It’s just over 1 hr to Sheffield by car, and 3 hrs to London. Get the train to the capital instead from either Newark or Nottingham train station.</p>
