Surrounded by lush green countryside close to the Vale of Belvoir but just nine miles from the heart of Nottingham, Bingham is handy for city shopping and nightlife but has all the benefits of small town rural living (gotta love a town with free parking). With excellent local schools, affordable housing and a recent injection of youthful, entrepreneurial spirit, Bingham is a great spot for families looking to put down roots.</p>

<p>Part of the buzz about Bingham is its entrepreneurial spirit and the clutch of cool cafés which have opened up in the past few years showcase this indie spirit. Cool indie bakery and coffee shop <a href="https://www.instagram.com/vanillabean_notts/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vanilla Bean</a> (pictured) is a vibrant new addition to the town with drool-worthy pastries, dreamy desserts and regular supper clubs. Just over the road you&#8217;ll find warm, welcoming <a href="https://butlerscoffeehouse.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Butler&#8217;s Coffee House</a>, the original of the independent chain and a WFH fave.</p>



<p>After hours there’s plenty to keep you going in Bingham, without having to venture into the city. <a href="https://bingham.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">House of Eve</a>, is a nice little cocktail lounge, next to sister Cantonese restaurant <a href="https://bingham.uk/yeung-sing" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Yeung Sing</a>. <a href="https://www.giltcafe.bar/bingham/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gilt</a> is a big, buzzy all-day and night spot for food and drink (with fab beer garden overlooking the Market Square). Another contemporary day-to-night spot is <a href="https://www.numbersixteenbingham.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Number Sixteen</a> which also overlooks the pretty square. Indie restaurant <a href="https://www.thecircleeatery.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Circle Eatery</a> serves up Mediterranean food, while it&#8217;s all about cocktails, sharing platters and coffee at <a href="https://www.curedcafeandbars.co.uk/cured-bingham" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cured</a>. The family-run freehouse <a href="https://thewheatsheafbingham.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Wheatsheaf</a> is award-winning and a cosy spot for drinks. Recently revamped<a href="https://tombrowns.uk/tom-browns-experience/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Tom Brown&#8217;s</a> is within shooting distance for swanky nights out.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-shop">SHOP</h2>



<p>Perched at corner of the Market Place, brilliant indie greengrocer <a href="https://www.instagram.com/explore/locations/1026887974/raw-fruit-veg/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Raw</a> is your go-to for fresh, local produce. The Market Place is also home to a butcher&#8217;s, <a href="https://clivelancasterandson.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Clive Lancaster &amp; Sons</a>, a Co-op, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/BinghamPetShop/?locale=en_GB" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bingham Pet Care Centre</a> and upmarket interiors shop <a href="https://cpinteriors.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">CP Interiors</a>.</p>



<p>Tucked away on the edge of the town centre is the Old Post Office Yard, which is home to almost a dozen small independent businesses. <p>Venture a little further and you’ll find a cool cluster of artisan shops at <a href="https://www.belvoircastle.com/retail-village" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Engine Yard</a> at Belvoir Castle, including luxe interior design, contemporary textiles and homeware and the estate farm shop.</p>

<p>Community spirit is vibrant and alive in Bingham, with plenty of community events going on throughout the year, including music, street food and kids’ activities at the annual summer B-Fest. There are also beer festivals, classic car shows, fireworks displays and a magical Christmas market. <p>Nestled within the Vale of Belvoir, there are loads of cute villages, country pubs and rural walks close by to explore. Beautiful <a href="https://www.belvoircastle.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Belvoir Castle</a> is a full day out, with beautiful gardens, a fab adventure playground and a new animal park for kids to enjoy. <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/nottinghamshire-lincolnshire/belton-estate" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Belton House</a> is another National Trust day out that&#8217;s close by. Family theme park fun isn’t far away with <a href="https://www.wheelgatepark.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wheelgate Park</a> is 20 minutes to the north of Bingham and <a href="https://twinlakes.digitickets.co.uk/tickets" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Twinlakes</a> is just south. <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST-KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>Bingham helped to fund the excavation of the tomb of Tutankhamen. The Earl of Carnarvon sold off the freehold of many properties in the town generate cash to fund the archaeological expedition of Howard Carter to Egypt in 1920.</p>
