<p>With its cottage-lined cricket pitch that doubles as a village green, winding lanes and wildlife-rich nature reserve, you&#8217;d never guess that this sleepy village is on the fringe of one of Britain&#8217;s buzziest cities. Quaint, quiet and quintessentially English, Attenborough is a calm place to retreat to after a day in the city. There&#8217;s pedestrian and cycle access to the big, beautiful nature reserve via leafy Church Lane. A lazy lunch hour dog walk, run after work or weekend fun with the kids couldn&#8217;t be more convenient. Yet, with terrific transport links, you can be in Nottingham city centre in 11 minutes and at the nearest airport in 10. This is rural village life with a very generous slice of city convenience.</p>

<p>You&#8217;ll need to leave the village and venture into neighbouring Beeston for the best eats, but you do have a clutch of convenient pubs at the entrance to the village. <a href="https://www.greeneking.co.uk/pubs/nottinghamshire/blue-bell" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Blue Bell</a> is pooch and family friendly and dishes up reliable pub grub, while <a href="https://www.thebirdhide.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Bird Hide</a> micropub showcases local ales and ciders and hosts a popular weekly pub quiz. Up the road in Beeston, <a href="https://www.caferoya.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Victoria Hotel</a> is a proper pub with a great atmosphere and a splash of gastro in the menu. Kids are welcome until 9pm. <a href="https://www.caferoya.com/">Café Roya</a> is a bright and beautiful space with insta-fodder vegetarian and vegan plates. For some international cuisine, <a href="https://www.loliva.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Trattoria Olivia</a> has a great reputation for tapas. And for delicious Italian dishes, you can’t go wrong with <a href="https://www.loliva.co.uk/">L’Oliva</a> or <a href="https://www.amoresrestaurantbeeston.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Amores</a>. You can pick up a great Sunday roast at <a href="https://www.oneunionpubs.co.uk/commercial" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Commercial Inn</a>.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s an 11 min train ride from the village to Nottingham city centre, so you’re likely to do most of your retail therapy in the city. <p>With the waymarked trails of Attenborough Nature Reserve on the doorstep, fresh air fitness is popular round here. <a href="https://www.broxtowe.gov.uk/for-you/parks-and-nature-conservation/walking-and-cycling/attenborough-nature-reserve-walks/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Kingfisher Trail</a> is a lovely circular 6km. The nearest leisure centre is <a href="https://www.lleisure.co.uk/sport-and-fitness/chilwell-olympia/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chilwell Olympia</a> where you&#8217;ll find fitness classes, a gym and swimming. There are several <a href="https://www.nottinghamyoga.org.uk/classes" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">yoga classes</a> in the village and Tai Chi and the like take place in the <a href="https://www.attenboroughvillagehall.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">village hall</a> too. <p>Plenty of weekly walks and community events on offer from <a href="https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/nottinghamshire-wildlife-trust-17938084737" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Notts Wildlife Trust </a>at the nature reserve. The village hall is the hub of local life, with plenty of events throughout the year, plus there&#8217;s a <a href="https://www.broxtowe.gov.uk/news-events/whats-on-where/2024/attenborough-spring-festival/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">spring festival</a> each April.</p>

<p>Part of Chilwell School, <a href="https://www.chilwellartstheatre.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chilwell Arts</a> Theatre is a great local spot for film and theatre and nearby Beeston has loads to get stuck into. There&#8217;s a <a href="https://beeston.arccinema.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">boutique cinema</a>&nbsp;which is part of a small indie chain, and hosts its own&nbsp;<a href="https://www.beestonfilm.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Film Festival</a> with loads of arthouse and international shorts. For art, drama and dance lovers, the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.artculturetourism.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ACT</a>&nbsp;group hosts loads of great events that promote diversity and cultural exchange.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lakesidearts.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lakeside Arts</a>&nbsp;is also a great little theatre in the grounds of the Uni of Nottingham that has loads of family-friendly fun along with fantastic shows.</p>

<p>Families will love&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/highfieldspark" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Highfields Park</a>&nbsp;next to the Uni of Nottingham. It is has a lovely boating lake and a huge play park for little ones. Nature seekers have&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nottinghamshirewildlife.org/attenborough" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Attenborough Nature Reserve</a> a few paces away. Opened by&nbsp;<em>the</em>&nbsp;Sir David Attenborough, this much loved, nationally important site is best known for its birds with over 250 species recorded (and it&#8217;s the best place in the UK to spot kingfishers). For a spot of heritage,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nottinghamcastle.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nottingham Castle</a>&nbsp;has loads of events on throughout the year for families and the brilliantly interactive <a href="https://www.nationaljusticemuseum.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">National Justice Museum</a> ids fab for rainy day family fun.</p>

Over in Toton,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.beestonfields.notts.sch.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chetwynd Spencer Academy</a>&nbsp;is also outstanding.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.thelanes.notts.sch.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Lanes Primary School</a>,&nbsp;<a href="http://www.roundhill.notts.sch.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Round Hill Primary School</a>, and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.beestonfields.notts.sch.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Beeston Fields Primary School</a>&nbsp;are all Good, as is&nbsp;<a href="https://johnclifford.school/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">John Clifford Primary School</a>&nbsp;(with a recent academy conversion).</p>

Heading down the independent schools route,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.trentschools.net/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Trent College</a>&nbsp;is a fab all-through school, or head into the city for&nbsp;<a href="https://nottinghamgirlshigh.gdst.net/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nottingham Girls’ High School GDST</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://nottinghamhigh.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nottingham High School</a>. They’re all 15 mins away by car.</p>

<p>Easy peasy. With a train station right in the heart of the village, Attenborough is perfectly-placed for commuters. The train gets you to Nottingham city centre in 11 mins, Derby in 19 mins and Lincoln in 1hr 15. For flights, East Midlands Parkway is a 7 min train ride or 20 min drive. Plus, Junction 25 of the M1 is just 3.5 miles away.</p>
