<p>For some excellent scoff and quaff, start at the fantastic <a href="https://www.restaurantlovage.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Restaurant Lovage</a> headed up by chef Lee Smith. It has now opened <a href="https://www.restaurantlovage.co.uk/coffeebylovage" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Coffee By Lovag</a>e too for daytime catch-ups. Just outside Bakewell, there are three gorgeous fine dining spots you’ll want to book: <a href="https://www.fischers-baslowhall.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fischer&#8217;s at Baslow Hall</a><a href="https://riversidehousehotel.co.uk/"> </a> and <a href="https://thepeacockatrowsley.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Peacock</a> at Rowsley, both (along with Lovage) are in the Michelin Guide.&nbsp;Nearby <a href="https://riversidehousehotel.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rafters at Riverside House</a> is another foodie favourite, with 5 AA Gold Stars and 2&nbsp;AA Rosettes, while recently-renovated <a href="https://theashfordarms.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Ashford Arms</a> (close by in Ashford-in-the-water) has a growing rep for great, local food. And its soon-to-launch sister venue is one to keep an eye on &#8211; the metamorphosis of an old Bakewell bank into a swanky restaurant and cocktail bar. </p>

And for Friday fun, grab a pizza at the super-cool <a href="https://shop.thornbridgebrewery.co.uk/pages/tap-room" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Thornbridge Tap</a> or head to buzzy <a href="https://www.wheatsheaf-bakewell.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Wheatsheaf</a> for live music. After some daytime eats? <a href="https://www.bakewellpuddingshop.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop</a> is a local institution (for obvious reasons). There’s also the brilliant <a href="https://www.bakewellahs.co.uk/bakewell-country-festival" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bakewell Country Festival</a> that celebrates all things Derbyshire with family-friendly fun and <a href="https://www.chatsworth.org/events/chatsworth-country-fair/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chatsworth Country Fair</a> each September.</p>

<p>Heritage buffs, <a href="https://www.chatsworth.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chatsworth House</a>, <a href="https://www.haddonhall.co.uk/">Haddon Hall</a> and <a href="https://www.thornbridgehall.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Thornbridge Hall</a> are all just a stone’s throw from Bakewell. And in the town itself, the <a href="https://www.oldhousemuseum.org.uk/">Bakewell Old House Museum</a> explores 500 years of history. The <a href="https://www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/visiting/places-to-visit/trails/monsaltrail" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Monsal Trail</a> runs from Bakewell 8.5 miles to Blackwell Mill through dramatic tunnels and over the epic Monsal Viaduct. Ideal for dog walks, family strolls and bike rides. Clamber up the hill and admire the views from Monsal Head too. Alternatively head just outside of Bakewell for the mysterious <a href="https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/nine-ladies-stone-circle/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nine Ladies Stone Circle</a> and <a href="https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/arbor-low-stone-circle-and-gib-hill-barrow/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Arbor Low Stone Circle</a>.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE</h2>



<p>Summer brings plenty of awesome al fresco opera, theatre and cinema to Chatsworth, along with the odd festival and music gig. Haddon Hall hosts regular classic music. The <a href="https://www.bakewelltownhall.co.uk/whats-on/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Assembly Rooms Theatre</a> hosts live comedy, theatre and film screenings.</p>

Anselm’s</a> is an award-winning prep school with flexi, weekly and full boarding for pupils, right in the heart of Bakewell.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>Thornbridge ales are shipped all over the country, but recently they’ve been keeping things a little closer to home with the brilliant <a href="https://shop.thornbridgebrewery.co.uk/pages/tap-room" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Thornbridge Taproom</a> next to their brewery. With live bands, themed nights and stone-baked pizzas, it’s the perfect hipster hangout for an after work catch up. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>By car, it’s about 40 mins to Sheffield or it’s nearly 90 mins on the bus. To London, it&#8217;s a chunky 3 hr hour drive, so take a load off and hop on the train from Chesterfield – whizzing you into London St Pancras in 1 hr 47 mins.</p>
