There&#8217;s no doubt that it&#8217;s given the grande dame of a Grade I listed manor house in the heart of&nbsp;Sherwood Forest a new lease of life, attracting a younger crowd to its dreamy <a href="https://www.warnerhotels.co.uk/hotels/thoresby-hall-hotel/the-spa/spa-days" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">day spa</a> while still offering country house core with its elegant afternoon tea offering.</p>

<p>The spa glow-up is more than just a facelift, with only the indoor swimming pool remaining more or less as it was. Now guests arrive in a calm, contemporary spa reception area that&#8217;s all Scandi wood-panelling and cool lighting, before heading through to swish, spacious changing rooms in a modern, muted colour scheme flanked with gilt-framed mirrors, products and Shark hairdryers. Oversize rattan light shades hang from the lovely atrium ceiling and the whole place feels light, bright and youthful.</p>

<p>The spa star here is the new outdoor spa garden which is a small but perfectly-formed chill zone. The bubbling outdoor hot tub has been designed to make the most of the stunning views of the elegant hall and there&#8217;s a cold plunge pool to dip into post-sauna (a spacious stunner that has floor-to-ceiling window that overlooks the hot tub).</p>

<p>Thoughtful planting of grasses and wildflowers, alongside relaxing water features, make it a lovely place to lie back on a lounger and chill. Indoors you&#8217;ll find a luxe lounge with very comfortable beds for relaxing post-treatment, along with a light, airy atrium with drinks and refreshments and large table and chairs for group beauty sessions. There&#8217;s also a pool (with bubble pool), a gym and steam room.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-treatments">THE TREATMENTS</h2>



<p>The seven new treatment rooms have a minimalist, botanical feel and use Med-inspired Temple Spa products. There&#8217;s a lovely menu of 30 minute treatments (most of which can be upgraded to an hour) which work well for a half day spa experience and give you time to enjoy everything else. I plumped for a dreamy <em>My Kinda Skin Facial</em> &#8211; warm hands, nourishing products, light touch &#8211; gorgeous.</p>

<p>Thoresby Hall is one of the Nottinghamshire&#8217;s very best places to indulge in a high end afternoon tea and works brilliantly paired with a half day spa experience. Ideal for elevating a day out to a top-end treat.  The newly-revamped Blue Room is a breathtaking, oh-so-elegant space to enjoy it all in. Stunning views over the gardens and Thoresby Park beyond; luxurious ceilings, wallpaper and chandeliers; and the prettiest dainty floral china that makes you sit up a little straighter and feel a little more ladylike.</p>

<p>Afternoon tea here feels special from the start. Prosecco of fresh juice to kick things off, then a tea of your choice (a magnificent mint for us) before the beautiful main event of a tiered cake stand arrives. I find it hard to get excited by sandwiches, but these dainty fingers of chicken and tarragon pouched trout and salmon, and roasted cauli and curried red pepper were delicious.</p>

<p>The sweet treats were just as sophisticated, with highlights being the chocolate gateau with hazelnut and raspberry ganache (moist and yummy) and marvellous macarons. Can&#8217;t manage it all in one sitting? Not a problem &#8211; the staff packed us off with a couple of boxes to take the rest home.</p>

<p>The grounds are have plenty to keep you occupied for a day visit, with an elegant sun terrace, pretty woodland trails and rose gardens to wander in. But <a href="https://thoresby.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Thoresby Park</a> is just beyond and has lots to enjoy with courtyard shops, café, and walks galore. <a href="https://visitsherwood.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sherwood Forest</a> is just down the road too.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-damage">THE DAMAGE</h2>



<p>Spa membership costs £110 a month (discount for joint membership).&nbsp;Spa days from £70 for a morning or afternoon (4 hour visits), then treatments priced individually.&nbsp;Afternoon tea for two costs £60 (including prosecco).&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict">THE MUDDY VERDICT</h2>



<p><strong>Good for:</strong> Small but perfectly-formed, this day spa is best served with a side of afternoon tea and swanning around the gorgeous grounds (not quite enough spa to spend all day in). Bullseye for grown up mother-daughter days out or a special catch-up with a friend. It&#8217;s also ideal for locals to join as a day spa member for regular micro time outs.</p>



<p><strong>Not for: </strong>If you&#8217;re searching for a full day of spa treatments and facilities, there may not be enough to sate your spa appetite. It would be criminal to miss the gorgeous grounds and historic hall, so come for the whole caboodle.</p>
