The genre-defining male ensemble in <a href="https://trch.co.uk/whats-on/matthew-bourne-swan-lake/">Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake</a> jeté onto the stage at Nottingham Theatre Royal from 18-22 Feb. Taking the brow a notch higher still, how about a <a href="https://trch.co.uk/whats-on/sunday-morning-piano-siqian-li/">Sunday Piano session </a>with virtuoso pianist Siqian Li? Known for her grace and emotional range, it should be breath-taking.



West End hit <a href="https://trch.co.uk/whats-on/the-shark-is-broken/">The Shark is Broken</a> takes a hilarious dive behind the scenes of the making of Jaws at Nottingham Theatre Royal from 26 Feb to 1 March.

We all need some belly laughs to get us through February so <a href="https://trch.co.uk/whats-on/katherine-ryan/">Katherine Ryan</a>&#8216;s Battleaxe stage show at Nottingham Theatre Royal should fit the bill (Fri 21 Feb).



With half term this month, there&#8217;s some brilliant family theatre on offer across Notts and Derbyshire. Muddy&#8217;s bookmarked <a href="https://nottinghamplayhouse.co.uk/events/minny-stynker/">Minny Stynker</a>, a seriously creative family puppet show that will get their imaginations racing, on Sat 22 February at Nottingham Playhouse. Meanwhile at Buxton Opera House, kids can tread the boards themselves at the <a href="https://buxtonoperahouse.org.uk/event/hairspray-musical-theatre-workshop-2025">Hairspray Musical Theatre Workshop</a> on Wed 19 Feb. Over in Chesterfield, Wicked fans can belt our Defying Gravity and Ariana&#8217;s greatest hits at <a href="https://chesterfieldtheatres.co.uk/shows/h-ariana-live/">Wickedly Ariana</a> on Sat 15 Feb. If revision is already on their minds, take your teens to<a href="https://derbytheatre.co.uk/event/of-mice-and-men/"> Of Mice and Men</a> is coming to Derby Theatre from Thurs 6 Feb to 1 March, or book in for David Tenant&#8217;s <a href="https://buxtonoperahouse.org.uk/event/macbeth-david-tennant-and-cush-jumbo-12a">Macbeth</a> movie on 5 or 12 Feb at Nottingham&#8217;s <a href="https://www.broadway.org.uk/whats-on/macbeth-david-tennant-and-cush-jumbo">Broadway Cinema </a>or on 6 Feb in Buxton.



The Year of the Dragon gets off to a sizzling start with a <a href="https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/nottingham-chinese-new-year-gala-2024-tickets-780208784477">music, dance and martial arts spectacular</a> at Notts Central Library from 4pm on Sat 17 February.

Comeback king <a href="https://tickets.motorpointarenanottingham.com/shows/show.aspx?sh=CRADMP24">Craig David</a> is February‘s highlight at Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham. The R&amp;B hottie takes to the stage on Wed 12 Feb. While over at Buxton Opera House, <a href="https://buxtonoperahouse.org.uk/event/turin-brakes-john-bramwell-2025">Turin Brakes &amp; John Bramwell</a> will bring their signature acoustic sound and rich harmonies to the stage on Fri 28 Feb.



A treat of an evening of stripped-back acoustic, rich harmonies and poetic lyrics as <a href="https://buxtonoperahouse.org.uk/event/turin-brakes-john-bramwell-2025">Turin Brakes and John Bramwell</a> (of I Am Kloot) bring their addictive brand of indie-folk to Buxton Opera House on Fri 28 Feb. Expect a performance full of wit and emotional depth.



Hopefully not mirroring the February weather, eighties’ legends <a href="https://buxtonoperahouse.org.uk/event/wet-wet-wet">Wet Wet Wet</a> are back on stage (alas minus Marti) at Buxton Opera House on Mon 5 February. Then it’s folky tunes from show-stopping <a href="https://buxtonoperahouse.org.uk/event/seth-lakeman-kitty-jay-20th-anniversary-tour">Seth Lakeman</a> on Sat 24 Feb.

If you’re anywhere near Chatsworth this month, it’s well worth dropping into the shop for a peek at the Peak District Artisans’ <a href="https://www.chatsworth.org/events/peak-district-artisans-showcase/">Showcase in the Shop</a>. It’s a chance to see art, jewellery and textiles from some of the area’s finest professional artists and makers (and yes, everything’s up for sale too so you might just snaffle a local gem). Runs until Sun 3 March.



A freebie! <a href="https://www.lakesidearts.org.uk/exhibitions/event/5954/fascinating-finds-from-nottinghams-caves.html">Fascinating Finds from Nottingham’s Caves</a> at University of Nottingham Museum highlights some of the fascinating finds from Nottingham&#8217;s mysterious network of caves underneath the city centre (some going back to the medieval period). Runs until July.



Looking for a romantic day out with a difference for Valentines? The Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath re-opens on Sun 11 February with a four-day celebration <a href="https://www.heightsofabraham.com/whats-on">Love is in the air</a>. Living history actors will be wafting around with poetry books in hand, look out for the Queen of Hearts and settle in for a romantic lunch with spectacular views at the restaurant.

Pottery at the pub? What could possibly go wrong? The Clayrooms&#8217; <a href="https://www.theclayrooms.co.uk/pottery-at-the-pub">Pottery at the Pub</a> sessions are always a hit and this month they’re back at Red Willow, Buxton on Mon 12 February to make rudey nudey planters (the perfect theme for Valentines) and pop up at Bear, Ashbourne for <a href="https://www.theclayrooms.co.uk/pottery-at-the-pub">Couples’ Romantic Pottery</a> on Thurs 15 Feb.



Over in Nottingham, there&#8217;s a chance to <a href="https://www.handmadenottingham.com/pages/workshops">craft a macramé wall-hanging</a> at Handmade Nottingham on Sun 18 February (1-3pm). The following week you can book in for a <a href="https://www.handmadenottingham.com/pages/workshops">beginners&#8217; lino print workshop</a> learn and how to design, carve and print your own designs using the lino cut technique (Sat 24 Feb).



If you like your sculpture all-natural, get down to the beginners’ <a href="https://www.derbyshirewildlifetrust.org.uk/events/2024-02-02-willow-structures">Willow Structures workshop</a> and craft your own garden showpiece ready for warmer weather. Friday 2 February, 10am-3pm at Carsington Water Visitor Centre.

Dazzling after-dark installations are back in Nottingham city centre on 28 February when <a href="https://www.visit-nottinghamshire.co.uk/whats-on/light-night-2024-p488231">Light Night</a> 2025 kicks off. You can visit more than 30 immersive, interactive light installations at venues across the city. Fabulous Places brings its oh-so-tasteful <a href="https://www.fabulousplaces.co.uk/market-weekend-at-peak-village/">indoor market</a> to Peak Shopping Village on Sat 17 and Sun 18 February for an early taste of spring. Shop spring blooms, home décor and personalised gifts all made by local independent small businesses (plus scrummy artisan coffee and cakes).&nbsp;



Turn a Sunday stroll into a discovery walk on a <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/nottinghamshire-lincolnshire/clumber-park/events/db205c80-b6da-4d60-9d37-499c8babce7e">Sunday Walkabout</a> at Clumber Park, near Worksop. It’s a great chance to find out a bit more about Clumber and take in some of the sights you might have missed. The next one is Sun 18 February. Pooch in tow? Try the Dog Walking Socials instead which take place every Wednesday at 10am from dog-friendly café Central Bark.

<a href="https://nottsderbyshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/travel/uk/hotels-inns/review-cavendish-hotel-baslow-peak-district-derbyshire/">The Cavendish Hotel Baslow</a> re-opens on Mon 19 Feb after six weeks of renovation. It was elegant and gorgeous before and Muddy can’t wait to check in to check out its new look.



Get your head for heights screwed on &#8211; the <a href="https://www.heightsofabraham.com/">Heights of Abraham</a> in Matlock Bath re-opens from Sat 10 February! Just in time for half term, you can take a cable car ride with the kids as they are open daily between 10-25 Feb and then long weekends (Fri-Mon) through March.
