<p>A maize maze at night is probably pretty scary anyway, but add in eerie carnival performers that awaken if you make the slightest rustle, cryptic clues and chilling riddles, and it’s gonna scare the bejesus out of you (or is that just me?). If you fancy unravelling the maze’s dark secrets, The Labyrinth runs from Fri 25 &#8211; Mon 28 October. This one’s aimed at adults but brave 14 – 17 years are allowed in if accompanied by an over 18.</p>

<p>Eeek! A screening of horror classics in a spooky underground cavern? Spectacular show cave, Peak Cavern, Castleton, sounds like the perfect venue for this lot. Pick from The Crow (Thurs 24 Oct), IT (Fri 25 Oct), or The Conjuring (27 Oct).</p>

<p>Just over the border near Burton-on-Trent in Staffordshire, this one is well worth the trip. It has quite the local following and is bigger and better than ever this year. The one making the headlines? Hellcatraz, an intense scare maze with some terrifying plot twists where you will be separated from your pals at some point to face the horrors alone. Other terror-inducing attractions include Creed Farm ‘meat harvest’, an ‘abandoned’ Freak Out Funhouse and the living nightmare Insomnia. Gulp.</p>

Batman&#8217;s mansion from The Dark Knight) for outdoor Halloween screenings of The Lost Boys, Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Scream. <p>A bit further afield, but worth it if you really love being scared witless, Alton Towers always puts on a fabulously frightening fest at Halloween. As if riding head-spinning, hair-raising rollercoasters in darkness wasn’t terrifying enough, there’s the dungeon to make it through, a dark escape ‘panic’ maze, ghost ships and an outdoor scare zone. Kicking off on 7 and 8 October and then from 11 Oct to 3 Nov, most scares come with a 12+ rating so shouldn’t be too traumatising for teens if you want to drag them along (or should that be the other way round?).</p>

<p>Physical scares trying to stay upright at this grown-up Halloween roller disco at The Grand Pavilion on Thurs 31 Oct. The old polished floorboards that have stood the test of time provide a unique skating experience. Legwarmers optional.</p>

<p>How about some serious heart-pumping scares&#8230;in a warehouse? This interactive Halloween pop-up transports thrill seekers to the scene of a chemical outbreak at a secret scientific test facility. Race against the clock to make it through the scare maze, where scary live actors lurk at every corner. From 12 Oct &#8211; 3 Nov at at the James Alexander Warehouse. Er, I&#8217;ll sit this one out.</p>
