<p>Forget Z-listers and dodgy reality TV stars,&nbsp;Nottingham is busy hosting some seriously big names right now. Big news this week is that superstar <a href="https://www.motorpointarenanottingham.com/whats-on/?utm_source=Muddy+Stilettos&amp;utm_medium=Website&amp;utm_campaign=MPA_Whats+On_Muddy&amp;utm_id=MPA_Whats+On_Muddy">Becky Hill</a> is set to grace the stage at Nottingham Motorpoint Arena on 15 October 2024 and Paloma Faith is making a return to the <a href="https://tickets.trch.co.uk/151212/151213">Royal Concert Hall</a> on Fri 5 April 2024. Get in the queue quick if you want tickets.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, the city rolled out the red carpet for the Princess of Wales when she dropped by Nottingham Trent Uni to chat to the city’s students about mental health. Kate met with met with students and colleagues who go above and beyond to help students with their mental health, before taking part in wellbeing activities.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-golden-peaks">Golden peaks?</h2>



<p>What’s this? Golden arches in the Peak District? Controversial it may be, but a new McDonald’s restaurant and drive-in has been given the green light in Buxton. Despite 81 objections from locals concerned about littering and traffic, the fast-food joint will oust Aldi in Station Road (it’s shifting to the edge of the town).</p>

<p>A charcoal fire grill and cocktail menu? A flashy new opening <a href="https://www.rawshagrill.com/">Rawsha Grill</a> in West Bridgford sounds like Muddy’s kind of place. It looks pretty swish too, with decadent velvet seating, verdant foliage and gold touches. </p>

<p>There&#8217;s no missing eye-popping-green-fronted <a href="https://www.pogonottingham.com/">Pogo</a>, a funky new bar that&#8217;s just opened in what used to be Cottonmouth in Hockley. Inside it&#8217;s cosy, contemporary with a very chilled vibe.  </p>



<p>Been to cool new Scandi-inspired coffee shop-cum-bakery <a href="https://www.instagram.com/okendecoffee/?hl=en">&nbsp;ØKENDE</a> in Carrington Steet, Notts yet? Slick and stylish. Pop in. Another sumptuous new place to quaff &#8211; striking new bar for the <a href="https://www.whitehartduffield.co.uk/">White Hart</a> in Duffield. The beaut’ of a bar has opened upstairs alongside the private dining area. Swanky. And, in case you missed it, Beeston now has a tasty new tapas bar and restaurant with a super-cool vibe &#8211; <a href="https://www.glassorchid.co.uk/about-us">Glass Orchid</a>.</p>

<p>A shiny new shop opening in Bakewell! Running brand <a href="https://www.inov-8.com/stores/bakewell">inov-8</a> has just opened in King Street (on the old Costa Coffee site) with clothing and equipment for runners, hikers and gym enthusiasts. There’s an in-store coffee shop, run by local company Summat, and you can expect guest speaker evenings and community runs and hikes.</p>



<p>A big fashion moment in the Peak District last week when cool country lifestyle store <a href="https://nottsderbyshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/henmores-ashbourne/">Henmores</a> opened its second shop at Peak Shopping Village, Rowsley. Stocking the likes of Holland Cooper, Barbour and Fairfax &amp; Favor it’s well worth a visit. Stick it on the list for your next day off – the <a href="https://peakvillage.co.uk/">village</a> is now home to more than 20 indie shops and cafés (including the delectable Chatsworth Kitchen).</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-awards-galore-for-local-eateries">Awards galore for local eateries</h2>



<p>The Harley Café over on the wonderful Welbeck Estate has been named Café of the Year. The small, bustling café, run by Welbeck Farm Shop,&nbsp;was crowned as East Midlands’ best in the 2023 Great Food Club Awards.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, Muddy favourite Binary Bar &amp; Restaurant in Mickleover (read Muddy’s review <a href="https://nottsderbyshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/restaurants/muddy-reviews-binary-bar-restaurant-mickleover-derbyshire/">here</a>) scooped Marketing Derby&#8217;s Best Newcomer Award while sister venue The Boot at Repton was runner up to The Barley Mow in Bonsall as Best Country Pub/Restaurant. <p>Bibliophiles rejoice! Nottingham is getting a lavish new central library very soon and it looks pretty special. Promising great things for mums-with-littlies looking for fabulous, free activities, the gorgeous woodland-inspired children’s section looks particularly lovely. With funky light-up letters dangling from the ceiling, circular reading zones and birch-tree pillars, it’s a bright optimistic space we can’t wait to see in action. Looks like it’ll be a useful WFH space too, with free wifi and access to laptops, computers and tablets, a café and lovely spaces flooded with natural light. Opening date is set for on&nbsp;<strong>Tues 28 November</strong>.</p>
