<p>Exciting goings-on at <a href="https://www.instagram.com/tombrowns_/">Tom Brown’s</a> in Gunthorpe where a swanky, art deco-esque revamp is nearing completion. With a show-stopping bar, low-lit interiors and high end dining (think sushi, lobster, steaks), it looks like this well-loved restaurant overlooking the River Trent will be back with a bang pretty soon.</p>



<p>Shock news this week that fabulous fine dining plant-based restaurant <a href="https://www.no12nottingham.co.uk/">No Twelve</a> is sadly closing its doors on 31 May. After eight years at the heart of Nottingham&#8217;s restaurant scene chef <a href="https://nottsderbyshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/restaurants/interview-ritchie-stainsby-no-twelve-nottingham-masterchef/">Ritchie Stainsby</a> announced the closure due to some factors beyond his control and for personal reasons.</p>

<p>More positive news for Nottingham foodies over at Michelin-starred <a href="https://www.alchemillarestaurant.uk/">Alchemilla</a>, which has just announced a series of collabs with iconic Michelin-starred chefs from across the country. The first will be with <a href="https://gwenrestaurant.co.uk/">Gwen</a> (sister restaurant to the legendary Ynyshir) who will team up with the Alchemilla crew to rustle up a 14-course feast on Tues 1 April. Want a seat at the table? Snap one up for £180, but you&#8217;ll need to move fast.</p>



<p>Tapas seems to be where it&#8217;s at in the restaurant world right now and Bakewell&#8217;s newest steak and seafood tapas restaurant <a href="https://deadcanarybakewell.co.uk/">The Dead Canary</a> seems to be going down a storm. Opulent and moody inside, with succulent steaks and see-them-to-believe-them seafood towers, it&#8217;s a great addition to the town&#8217;s foodie scene.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-cafe-culture">Café culture</h2>

<p>Quite a clutch of new cafés on the horizon this month. First up it&#8217;s luxury bakery chain <a href="https://gails.com/">Gail’s</a> which seems to be on a roll, with Buxton announced as one of 40 new sites for 2025. The upmarket chain has applied for permission to set up shop in the grade II listed former Barclays Bank building. If successful, it could be open in time for summer.</p>



<p>Another Derbyshire coffee stop is days away from opening in Chesterfield, with <a href="https://hostcoffee.uk/">Host Coffee</a>&#8216;s second branch nearing completion on Chatsworth Road (pictured). </p>



<p>Next up, a new post-walk pitstop at Shipley Country Park. Bluebell Café will be opening up in the Visitor Centre later this month, not far from the main car park. The café comes hot on the heels of Barefeet Lodge Tea Rooms which opened at the end of last year at Derby Lodge in the Shipley Wood area of the park.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, Nottinghamshire&#8217;s <a href="https://woldswineestate.com/?srsltid=AfmBOooUP_JKR5qWIQWCZrkGYY87H3EIJvNW01zVKTaTnV0iFEqNeIAH">Wolds Wine Estate</a> hopes to open a new café with vineyard views later this year.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-summer-holiday-saviours">Summer holiday saviours</h2>



<p>One for your school holiday radar if you need to drag the kids outside &#8211; a new skatepark<strong> </strong>has just opened at Matlock&#8217;s Hall Leys Park. Boasting quarter pipes, box jumps, and several grind rails, it&#8217;s bullseye for teens, while younger kids will be getting a new interactive splashpad to replace the ageing paddling pool later this year.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-prime-peak-estate">Prime Peak estate</h2>

<p>All eyes were on The George in Hathersage which hosted the launch of the new Peak District edition of Monopoly (and features as a piece of prime estate on the board). Iconic Peak locations such as Mam Tor, Edale rail station and Ashbourne Tunnel, feature on the new board and even the Monopoly pieces are Peak-themed (including a Bakewell pudding and a tent). Fancy one? The brand-new <a href="https://winningmoves.co.uk/products/peak-district-monopoly-board-game">Peak District edition</a> is available in leading stores including local indie Big Top Toys, for £34.99. High on the success of its football team this season, Nottingham was also named as one of 10 new cities to get its own updated limited edition Monopoly set.</p>

Perched on the edge of the Chatsworth Estate, the judges praised its striking views, sensational food and impressive top-to-toe refurb. Congrats.</p>
