<p>We totally recommend the ‘<em><a href="https://uk.bookshop.org/books/the-blackhouse-the-gripping-start-to-the-bestselling-crime-series-lewis-trilogy-book-1/9781849163866">Lewis Trilogy</a></em>’ by Peter May, a crime series set on the atmospheric Isle of Lewis, Scotland. Each book is such an intriguing page turner and really descriptive. I was hooked instantly and spend all my time recommending it others!</p>



<p>Another crime novelist worth your time is Elly Griffiths, the pen name of Domenica de Rosa. She’s written two series following forensic archaeologist <a href="https://uk.bookshop.org/books/the-crossing-places-the-dr-ruth-galloway-mysteries-1/9781786481863">Dr Ruth Galloway</a>, and ‘<em><a href="https://uk.bookshop.org/books/the-zig-zag-girl-the-brighton-mysteries-1/9781784291969">The Brighton Mysteries</a></em>’. The characters are really down to earth and instantly relatable. They’re easy reads but with some good depth, and for thrillers, they’re captivating but not too gory.</p>

<p>If you&#8217;re into romance you can&#8217;t go wrong with best-selling authors <a href="https://uk.bookshop.org/books?keywords=Diane+Allen">Diane Allen</a> and <a href="https://uk.bookshop.org/books?keywords=Lesley+Pearse">Lesley Pearse</a> &#8211; brilliant historical context with real characters. Truly gorgeous reads from authors who are interesting characters themselves.</p>

<p>Or for a classic read revisitedk you can&#8217;t help but fall in love with ‘<em><a href="https://uk.bookshop.org/books/chocolat-chocolat-1/9780552998482">Chocolat</a></em>’ by Joanne Harris. Even though it was released in 1999, it still holds up as a literary delight. There are tastes and smells that leap off the page, and with a true feel-good factor, it’s perfect for summer. Absolutely magical.</p>

<p>It’s brilliant how much this genre has improved over the years and now, some young adult fiction is as well-written as books marketed for adults. For starters, delve into the Philip Pullman trilogy ‘<em><a href="https://uk.bookshop.org/books/his-dark-materials-wormell-slipcase/9781407188997">His Dark Materials</a></em>’ (season 3 of the TV adaption is due this autumn), ‘<em><a href="https://uk.bookshop.org/books/the-power-of-five-raven-s-gate/9781406338881">The Power of Five</a></em>&#8216; series by Anthony Horowitz or ‘<em><a href="https://uk.bookshop.org/books/the-infernal-devices-1-clockwork-angel/9781406330342">The Infernal Devices</a></em>’ trilogy. These books are so escapist and they’re great easy reads too.</p>
