Woodborough Hall, Woodborough

A radical refurb and new owners with an eye for the personal touch has worked wonders for this elegant country house. Perfect for intimate weddings and romantic meals out – and its stylish new bedrooms make it well worth a sleepover.

Fancy tying the knot somewhere with proper historic pedigree? This wisteria-clad, grade II*-listed pile in four acres of pretty gardens, dates back to the 1600s and was once a hangout for William the Conqueror and his son the Sheriff of Nottingham no less.

Lovely new owners (who are big on the personal touch) welcomed back weddings and opened up for daily dining and afternoon teas at the end of 2022 after a huge refurb. With simple, pared-back décor, they’re onto a winner, having made the most of gorgeous original features like ancient beamed walls, a stunning six-piece stained glass window and the show-stopping hand-carved oak staircase. There’s a calm elegance here that lends itself to serene brides wafting through the lovely rooms.

Looking to say ‘I do’? You’re spoilt for choice, especially if you’re after an intimate bash. I loved the warm, elegant orangery, for up to 60 guests, with dappled sunlight shining through glass skylights. There’s also a really lovely dining room for smaller ceremonies and wedding breakfasts for up to 30 guests, a louche lounge with gentleman’s club vibe and a stylish, contemporary lounge bar which can hold up to 120.

But it’s not just weddings. Woodborough Hall operates everyday as a hospitality venue, offering fabulous afternoon teas, lunches and a newly-launched evening dining menu (featuring fresh, locally-sourced food) in the orangery. With cool cocktail bar to kick your night off, it’s a great choice for a grown-up evening out.

With three slick, refurbished suites and two elegant en suite bedrooms now open, it means you can quaff cocktails with your meal and crash upstairs in serious comfort. Book us in now.
