Compamigos, Derby

With a menu designed for sharing, this laid-back waterside tapas bar and restaurant is the perfect place to share plates, stories and a cocktail or two.

Newly open in a gorgeous waterside spot at Mercia Marina, tapas bar and restaurant Compamigos has placed sharing and togetherness right its heart. Its name says it all, coming from the Spanish phrase ‘Compartir Con Amigos’, meaning to share with friends. This is a place to gather the gang, catch up, and share good food. Prepare to enter small plate paradise.

Warm, friendly and buzzy, it’s not just Spanish classics like Patatas Bravas and Gambas Pil Pil (garlic prawns) on the menu here. You’ll also find globe-trotting tour of tapas dishes like Teriyaki Chicken Tenders, Crispy Masala Fish, and Hot Honey Crispy Beef. Veggies are well-catered for too. Can’t make up your mind? Opt for Tapas Roulette – a blessing for the indecisive – and explore new flavours with a surprise selection.

This place also delivers big on breakfasts and brunches, with everything from Huevos Rancheros and pancake stacks to their twist on a Full English with Signature Beans (a blend of four different beans and corn in a sweet, smoky tomato sauce – mwoah!).  Come Sunday, you can book in for a classic Sunday lunch too.

In a cracking location perched on the edge of Europe’s largest inland marina (and oh-so-easy to access just off the A38 and A50), Compamigos looks out onto the water. Decorated in the warm colours of the Med, it’s inviting and cosy inside. And when the sun’s shining it’s the place to go, when you can enjoy the outdoor tables and soak up the waterside holiday vibe. It’s one of those easy breezy restaurants that could fast become your foodie favourite.
