Casa Hotel, Chesterfield
Sleek and striking with a streak of Spanish style, this independent hotel blends contemporary city chic with plenty of personality. No wonder it’s a Muddy Award winner.
Architecturally striking and modern, but perched in a historic market town on the edge of a National Park, Casa breaks the mould when it comes to traditional Peak District digs.
The independent 100-bedroom four-star hotel is spacious and spotlessly-clean and is packed with luxe mod-cons like controllable air conditioning, triple-glazed windows, 32′ LCD screens, free high-speed Wi-Fi and rain showers (with controls that mean you can adjust the temperature before getting in without getting soaked).
But it’s also a place with personality and the personal touch (with friendly, helpful staff that are the talk of TripAdvisor). The hearty Peak District breakfast is all sourced locally from Walton Lodge Farm, just four miles away. And the owner’s Spanish roots sing through in the fun, relaxed interiors of the bar and There are olive trees decorated with pretty exposed bulbs, curved seating to create cosy nooks and bright colours and bold patterns.
The 2 AA rosette restaurant, Cocina, offers a mouth-watering menu with a Spanish twist and the chefs cook using charcoal ovens, flown over especially from Barcelona. The cocktail bar is pretty special too, serving up hand-crafted cocktails and tasty tapas.
A solid night’s shut-eye seems guaranteed. The big, airy bedrooms are quiet (and well-insulated from traffic noise), temperature-controlled and guests rave about the super-comfortable Hypnos beds. Special occasion? Upgrade from the super-king deluxe rooms to a suite with emperor size bed, where you can step out on to your balcony to a mini spa complete with hot tub and sauna.
Casa sits in a great location too, perched just near the M1 only about 20miles from Nottingham and Sheffield, yet within easy reach of the rural charms of the Peak District (Chatsworth is 10 miles away). With such great access and facilities, it’s a brilliant place to do business. There are 11 purpose-built meeting rooms and two conference suites, with the latest fancy tech – from ultra-HD 4K screens with Yealink wireless connection to special interior ambient lighting.
