Bikes, boots and dogs at the ready! There’s a hip new 60-bed hotel freshly open in Hope Valley in the heart of the Peak District, where pooch-friendly facilities and stacks of freebies come as standard.

Bike & Boot (whose first hotel opened in Scarborough in 2020) opened its second outpost on the site of the old Rising Sun pub, between Hathersage and Bamford in September 2023. Chilled and relaxed, it’s bullseye for outdoors lovers. As well as perfectly located for adventurous types in the heart of prime walking and biking country, it’s been deliberately designed inside for them too.

Let’s start with the two-wheelers. Not only is there a bike hire shop on site, but there’s free bike storage and maintenance facilities and whimsical bike-themed design features peppering the whole hotel. For the hikers and their four-pawed companions, there’s loads to love – free dog grooming facilities, free pet toy and dog bed, plus free treats and drinks for dogs and their owners (free cake at 4pm to refuel after walks and free hot drinks all day). Not enough freebies for you? There are three free films a day in the funky cinema room and even parking for classic cars.

But what Muddy loves best about this youthful new hotel chain is its easy, relaxed style (and reasonable room rates). Rooms are large and airy with Missioni-style stripes and stylish pops of tangerine and sky blue. Velvet sofas and bright, quirky decorative touches give it an optimistic, relaxed feel.
