<p>Yippee, dressing up season will soon be upon us! With prom season around the corner and sparkling festive parties on the horizon, Muddy asked the experts for styling tips that take inspiration from&nbsp;the hottest trends spotted on the catwalks.</p>

<p>As they open their doors for <a href="https://www.conscious-closet.co.uk/">prom styling appointments</a>, Sarah Rockley and Lisa Holland from <a href="https://nottsderbyshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/conscious-closet-prom-dresses-southwell-nottinghamshire/">Conscious Closet</a> in Southwell, take us through 5 key dress trends.&nbsp;‘In general designer brands for&nbsp;2025 showed an elevated and&nbsp;grown-up&nbsp;attitude to dressing,’ says Sarah.&nbsp;‘We saw the&nbsp;feminine&nbsp;Boho styles with sheer layering and volume details, championed&nbsp;by&nbsp;stand-out shows at&nbsp;Chloe and Isabel Marant.&nbsp;Or the hourglass&nbsp;ladylike styles with nipped in waists and gentle fabrications, as seen at the Erdem,&nbsp;Dior and Valentino shows.’&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>‘Luckily, as we move through the seasons, what’s apparent is that comfort is non-negotiable in occasion wear and for 2024/2025 the fabrics are perfect for allowing you to wear the dress effortlessly,’ adds Lisa. ‘From stretch fabrics that hug&nbsp;and&nbsp;move with your body, pockets (which at Conscious&nbsp;Closet&nbsp;we love!),&nbsp;underskirts for modesty and internal support to fit without uncomfortable underwear.’</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-sunset-shades-nbsp">Sunset shades&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Muted tones, like the colours of the sunset, are where it’s at. Colour trends from autumn in burgundy, chocolate and ruby developed&nbsp;into&nbsp;softer tones of reds, oranges and browns for spring (as seen at Alberta Ferretti, Gucci and Proenza Schouler). Dusky pinks, sage greens and butter yellow from Tove,&nbsp;Toteme, Victoria Beckham and Erdem added a softer touch.&nbsp;‘Red, green and&nbsp;blue are always popular prom colours, but this season we are seeing much lighter colours&nbsp;fitting&nbsp;the dusky pastels and&nbsp;those sunset shades,’ says Sarah.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-modern-romance-nbsp">Modern romance&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Sheer, sheer&nbsp;everywhere! In layers and ruffles at Chloé and&nbsp;Khaite, sexy at Elie Saab, and gloriously printed by the queens of romance at Zimmerman.&nbsp;Add to&nbsp;that embellishments of appliqué&nbsp;flowers at Chloé and Alberta Ferretti, sequin flowers at Valentino, sheer flowers tied around the waist at Philosophy &#8211; and this is suddenly a very modern way of dressing like a romantic heroine.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>‘Prom trends in the US&nbsp;are&nbsp;moving&nbsp;towards more ruffles and prints, taking inspiration from the Bridgerton,’ says&nbsp;Lisa.&nbsp;‘We are seeing increasing&nbsp;requests for more&nbsp;romantic styles&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;with dresses that have frills and sheer details and mix&nbsp;beading&nbsp;and&nbsp;embellishment on the top with&nbsp;floaty&nbsp;satin&nbsp;or tulle skirts.’&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-volume-and-drama-nbsp">Volume and drama&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Exaggerated and oversized hems are still being flaunted&nbsp;down the catwalk, with Simone Rocha,&nbsp;Khaite,&nbsp;Ganni&nbsp;and Roksanda putting their own twist on this head-turning voluminous silhouette. Either huge bubble skirts or swathes&nbsp;of flowing fabrics, large bows and dramatic necklines &#8211; it was all about the drama. And drama in a trim? Trims of fringing and feathers to otherwise simple shapes made texture a key look for dresses in 2025. 16 Arlington and&nbsp;Nanushka&nbsp;sent a fringed yellow dress down the catwalk, while Tory Burch, Michael Kors and Elie Saab kept it monochrome and ladylike.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>Sarah’s advice? ‘Even though this is a difficult shape to pull off, for prom you can&nbsp;definitely go&nbsp;bold!’ she says. ‘Dresses&nbsp;with dramatic full skirts and bow details, and feather trim styles are very popular&nbsp;for event dressing&nbsp;at the moment.’&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-slink-and-shine-nbsp">Slink and shine&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Satins and shiny metallic and sequin textures graced the catwalks for both daywear and eveningwear. Victoria Beckham, Tove and Jill Sander showcased sophisticated slinky dresses in high shine fabrics and soft colours. ‘For prom, high shine fabrics using satin and lurex stretch&nbsp;in gorgeous colours&nbsp;are very popular,&nbsp;and&nbsp;we are&nbsp;starting to see simpler satin designs with low&nbsp;tied&nbsp;backs and&nbsp;high sexy&nbsp;splits&nbsp;grow in popularity,’ says Sarah. &nbsp;</p>



<p>The Row kept it simple by adding a beaded neckline to a slinky black column dress, and Tove added in draped&nbsp;Grecian&nbsp;jersey styles as a key day to evening look. Tom Ford and Gucci went for all out glamour in metallic and sequined&nbsp;textures in figure hugging&nbsp;dresses. But the common factor was they were all slinky and fitted.&nbsp;</p>



<p>‘At Conscious Closet we have&nbsp;similar&nbsp;styles with bead details,&#8217; enthuses Lisa. &#8216;And&nbsp;our&nbsp;black&nbsp;satin slips are ideal worn&nbsp;with a sparkly cape and accessorised with sparkle&nbsp;jewellery&nbsp;for that slink and shine.’</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-mini-mania-nbsp">Mini mania&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Not afraid to flash a bit of leg? Mini hemlines were all over the catwalks for both Autumn/Winter and Spring 2025. Many (Gucci, Dior and Acne Studios) had a new hourglass&nbsp;shape in simple plain colours, while Emelia Wickstead and Nensi&nbsp;Dojaka&nbsp;showed more flirty and feminine styles. ‘Although at Conscious Closet we specialise in long dresses, we do have a few sparkly short showstoppers should you be partying in a mini!’ says Sarah.</p>
