<p>For some excellent scoff and quaff, start at the fantastic <a href="https://www.restaurantlovage.co.uk/">Restaurant Lovage</a> headed up by chef Lee Smith. Just outside Bakewell, there are three gorgeous fine dining spots you’ll want to book: <a href="https://www.fischers-baslowhall.co.uk/">Fischer&#8217;s at Baslow Hall</a>, <a href="https://riversidehousehotel.co.uk/">Rafters at Riverside House</a> and <a href="https://thepeacockatrowsley.com/">The Peacock</a> at Rowsley. All three (as well as Lovage) are in the Michelin Guide.&nbsp;Nearby Gallery Restaurant at <a href="https://nottsderbyshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/the-cavendish-hotel-baslow-derbyshire/">The Cavendish Hotel</a> in Baslow comes highly rated too, with three AA Rosettes and a gorgeous new Garden Room restaurant for more informal dining.</p>



<p><a href="https://piedaniels-restaurant.com/">Piedaniel’s</a>, <a href="https://thewoodyardbakewell.com/">The Woodyard</a> and <a href="https://www.robinsonsbrewery.com/pubs/the-manners-bakewell/">The Manners</a> are all fab for relaxed midweek meals. And for Friday fun, grab a pizza at the super-cool <a href="https://shop.thornbridgebrewery.co.uk/pages/tap-room">Thornbridge Tap</a>. After some daytime eats? <a href="https://www.bakewellpuddingshop.co.uk/">The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop</a> is a local institution (for obvious reasons). And the <a href="https://www.thelambtonlarder.co.uk/">Lambton Larder</a> is a gorgeous little deli-cum-café. <p>Outdoorsy types have the best of the Peak District’s outdoor playground on their doorstep. Climbing, mountain biking, trail running and hiking are all so easy with Bakewell as your base. <a href="https://www.summat.co/">Summat</a> is the place to start if you’re seeking like-minded athletic buddies, a coffee shop that organises runs and rides and has a great adventure sport community.</p>

There’s also the brilliant <a href="https://www.bakewellahs.co.uk/bakewell-country-festival">Bakewell Country Festival</a> that celebrates all things Derbyshire with family-friendly fun and <a href="https://www.chatsworth.org/events/chatsworth-country-fair/">Chatsworth Country Fair</a> each September.</p>

<p>Heritage buffs, <a href="https://www.chatsworth.org/">Chatsworth House</a>, <a href="https://www.haddonhall.co.uk/">Haddon Hall</a> and <a href="https://www.thornbridgehall.co.uk/">Thornbridge Hall</a> are all just a stone’s throw from Bakewell. And in the town itself, the <a href="https://www.oldhousemuseum.org.uk/">Bakewell Old House Museum</a> explores 500 years of history. The <a href="https://www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/visiting/places-to-visit/trails/monsaltrail">Monsal Trail</a> runs from Bakewell 8.5 miles to Blackwell Mill through dramatic tunnels and over the epic Monsal Viaduct. Ideal for dog walks, family strolls and bike rides. Clamber up the hill and admire the views from Monsal Head too. Alternatively head just outside of Bakewell for the mysterious <a href="https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/nine-ladies-stone-circle/">Nine Ladies Stone Circle</a> and <a href="https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/arbor-low-stone-circle-and-gib-hill-barrow/">Arbor Low Stone Circle</a>.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE</h2>



<p>Summer brings plenty of awesome al fresco opera, theatre and cinema to Chatsworth, along with the odd festival and music gig. Haddon Hall hosts regular classic music. The <a href="https://www.bakewelltownhall.co.uk/whats-on/">Assembly Rooms Theatre</a> hosts live comedy, theatre and film screenings.</p>

Anselm’s</a> is an award-winning prep school with flexi, weekly and full boarding for pupils, right in the heart of Bakewell.&nbsp;Well-respected prep school <a href="https://www.msmcollege.com/prep" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Barlborough Hall</a> and all-rounder <a href="https://nottsderbyshire.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/review-mount-st-marys-college-derbyshire/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mount St Mary&#8217;s</a> are within shooting distance too.</p>

<p>Thornbridge ales are shipped all over the country, but recently they’ve been keeping things a little closer to home with the brilliant <a href="https://shop.thornbridgebrewery.co.uk/pages/tap-room">Thornbridge Taproom</a> next to their brewery. With live bands, themed nights and stone-baked pizzas, it’s the perfect hipster hangout for an after work catch up. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>By car, it’s about 40 mins to Sheffield or it’s nearly 90 mins on the bus. To London, it&#8217;s a chunky 3 hr hour drive, so take a load off and hop on the train from Chesterfield – whizzing you into London St Pancras in 1 hr 47 mins.</p>
