If you’re in need of a proper countryside escape, head to the rural village of Dalbury Lees to find The Cow. This super cute inn has all the hallmarks of a proper British retreat – roaring fires, exposed beams and eccentric artwork. But there’s the added bonus of some wonderful, luxury twists.

He’s set up supplies from Newlyn, Looe, Mevagissey and other Cornish ports. This means fresh fish is landed on the day, packed on ice and delivered to The Cow the following morning. And if seafood doesn’t tickle your fancy, there’s prime Derbyshire beef and plenty of seasonal vegan and vegetarian options.

The Cow is a stone’s throw from lovely Ashbourne for loads of indies and bars to explore, and just a hop to the city of Derby. If you’re using the inn as a base for exploring, the breathtaking beauty of the Peak District is 20 minutes away in the car. Be sure to visit Thor’s Cave and the stepping stones at Dovedale.
