Arguably the coolest Derby spot to kick back with a slice, Harpur’s in Melbourne has a nook for every occasion, from hot dates to family celebrations. As you step in, you’ll find balanced décor of rustic exposed brick married with contemporary splashes of colour and sleek wall art.
Pretty as it may be, the menu is even more pleasing with a brilliant blend of tapas-style small plates and a rather large variety of burgers alongside carbonara, drizzly salads, and fish and chips. Harpurs is also a belter for brunch, or Champagne Breakfast, as they’ve dubbed it. Sip a glass of fizz to start, breakfast pancakes to wake up your appetite, and then a full English, avo-on-toast or vegan fry-up. Yum.
Though the menus offer a well-rounded selection, nothing beats the pizza here. Handcrafted with sourdough bases and freshly wood-fired in-house, you’re spoilt for choice between the seven flavours (spiced chicken, rustika, diavola, artichoke and mushroom, pepperoni, Margherita, and avventuriero). And you don’t have to stick to one either, you can opt for a 50/50 split of toppings for the best of both worlds. Oh, and if you like to eat with your eyes, head to the pizza kitchen, where you can watch the chefs knead, flip, and sizzle your pizza.
Rather quaff than scoff? You’re in the right place. Harpur’s has a brilliant range of wines, mocktails, and gins, but you’ll surely be cosying up with the classic cocktails – chin chin!
Wait, there’s more, for those wanting an alfresco feast, The Courtyard is a large beer garden ideal for whiling away summer days, and The Hideaway is a polished rooftop bar ideal for drinks with friends and sheltered for rainy days (pshh, as if you’d ever need that in England). Plus there are nine stylish bedrooms if you want to make a stay of it.
Anyone else suddenly hankering for a pepperoni slice?
